Go Power electricity bills in the Republic of Ireland come in two layouts, depending on how your meter is read. Pick yours below, then click any line for a plain-English explanation of what it is, who sets it, and how the figure was worked out.
100% green energy on every tariffIf your bill lists usage across time bands such as Summer Day and Summer Peak, you are on the quarter-hourly layout. If it shows a single Energy line with opening and closing meter reads, you are on the non-quarter-hourly one.
Non-quarter-hourly meter — type Standard. The standard business meter. It carries a single register that is read manually, and everything you use is charged at one rate whatever the time of day. Most Go Power sites in the Republic are on this layout.

The date we issued the bill — always the last day of the month of supply. Your payment is taken 21 days later.
The days this bill covers. We bill monthly in arrears, so this bill is for electricity you used during the month shown.
Meter Point Reference Number. The unique 11-digit number for the electricity connection at your premises. It belongs to the property, not to you — quote it whenever you contact us, ESB Networks, or a new supplier.
Three codes that between them decide which published network tariff applies to you. DG is your DUoS Group, set by ESB Networks from the size and shape of your connection. MCC is the Meter Configuration Code, which describes the meter fitted. Profile is your load profile class. You do not choose any of them, and every supplier uses the same ones.
Where the electricity was delivered. It can differ from the address the bill is posted to — useful if a head office pays for several sites.
Where your meter stood at the start and end of the period. The code in brackets tells you the source: (AR) an actual read, (ER) an estimate. Units used are the closing read minus the opening read: 329,688 − 328,339 = 1,349 kWh, and every charge below is that figure multiplied by a rate.
Our Supplier Management Fee — the one and only charge Go Power takes for supplying you. It is fixed for your whole contract term and charged per kWh you use. 1,349 kWh × 5.0000c = €67.45.
The electricity itself, for the hours that fall in the single 24-hour band. Under our Cost Plus model this rate is the wholesale market cost of power for those hours — we add no margin to it. All of it is 100% green. 1,349 kWh × 17.4800c = €235.81.
A fixed charge from ESB Networks for keeping your connection live, your meter registered and the network available to you. You pay it whether or not you use any electricity.
The cost of getting the electricity you used to your meter, and of running the market that supplied it. It is a single bundled rate: distribution charges from ESB Networks, transmission charges from EirGrid, and the Single Electricity Market charges collected through SEMO. All are published in advance, approved by the CRU, and identical for every supplier — Go Power adds nothing to them. 1,349 kWh × 15.2600c = €205.86.
The PSO Levy — a Government charge set annually by the CRU that funds national energy policy commitments, including support for renewable generation and security of supply. Note the units: it is charged on your connection capacity in kVA, not on the electricity you used, so it does not fall if you use less. 34 kVA × 0.7000 = €23.80.

VAT on the sub total. Electricity in the Republic of Ireland is charged at the reduced rate of 9%. The rate is set by Government and can change in a Budget or Finance Act — if it does, your bill changes with it automatically.

Quarter-hourly meter — type Interval. Larger sites are settled on quarter-hourly interval data — the meter records consumption every 15 minutes and sends it to us automatically, so there are no manual reads. Usage is split across five seasonal time bands, network charges are separated into distribution and transmission, and every market charge is itemised. A later page breaks the month down day by day.

The charge for the Maximum Import Capacity (MIC) you have agreed with ESB Networks — 50 kVA on this bill. You are reserving that much capacity at the site and you pay for it whether or not you draw on it.
Charged when your actual demand exceeds the capacity you have reserved. This site’s maximum demand was 105 kVA against a 50 kVA MIC, so the 55 kVA of excess is surcharged. It is the single most avoidable line on this bill — if your demand is regularly above your MIC, talk to your account manager about having the MIC increased.
ESB Networks’ charge for carrying the electricity you used in the Summer Day band through the distribution network to your meter. Published in advance, approved by the CRU, and identical for every supplier. 14,491 kWh × 3.8870c = €563.25.

Night distribution charges are a fraction of the daytime rate, because the network is far less busy.

DUoS stands for Distribution Use of System. This is everything ESB Networks receives for delivering your electricity over the local network — the standing charge, your capacity, any surcharge, and the per-unit band charges.
TUoS stands for Transmission Use of System — the high-voltage network that moves power around the country before it reaches the local distribution system. This line covers your share of running it. 42,402 kWh × 0.443765c = €188.17.
The cost of the services that keep the grid stable second by second — reserve, frequency response and voltage control. Procured by EirGrid, the transmission system operator. 42,402 kWh × 2.895778c = €1,227.87.
Your contribution to the capacity of the transmission network itself. On this bill it comes to €289.92.
The three transmission lines added together. Like the DUoS charges, these rates are published in advance and are the same for every supplier.

Covers the cost of running the grid within its physical limits — constraining generators on or off when the network cannot carry what the market scheduled. Set by the Single Electricity Market Operator.
The cost of running the electricity market itself — trading, settlement and metering data systems operated by SEMO.
A currency adjustment arising from settlement in the all-island market, passed through at cost.
Spreads across all suppliers the difference payments that arise under the market’s capacity arrangements. The rate is zero on this bill, so nothing is charged — but the line still prints.
Funds the capacity market — payments that keep enough generation available to meet peak demand. It is charged on your usage during the peak-risk periods, which is why the units here are lower than your total consumption.
The five market lines added together. SEMO is the Single Electricity Market Operator, which runs the all-island wholesale electricity market shared by Ireland and Northern Ireland.
A credit for electricity your own micro-generation exported to the grid — the figure is in brackets because it comes off your bill. The line beneath shows how the 1,263 kWh was arrived at: your Maximum Export Capacity × a capacity factor × an export factor × the hours in the month (50 × 0.097 × 0.350 × 744).

Page 2 of a half-hourly bill. Every day of the month is broken down across the same time bands used in the charges, so you can see exactly when your site draws power. The bottom row totals each band — and those totals are the figures used on page 1. (Abbreviated here; your own bill lists every day.)
How efficiently your site uses the power it draws. 1.00 is perfect. A materially lower figure means your equipment is drawing reactive power, which can be worth correcting — your account manager can advise.
The highest quarter-hourly demand recorded in the month, in kVA. Compare it with the Capacity Charge on page 1: this site reserved 50 kVA but peaked at 105 kVA, which is exactly why the MIC Surcharge appears. Reviewing the MIC would remove it.
